Dr. Whalen I grew up in Orland Park, IL, and spent some time in Duluth, MN for 2.5 years. He received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at North Central College in Naperville, IL. Dr. Whalen worked at Activa as a tech/aide during my undergrad. He then studied at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN where he received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Amazingly, he has come full circle to work as a Physical Therapist at Activa Physical Therapy where his journey had first begun. Dr. Whalen has also had the opportunity to work with patients across the continuum of care, from ICU, neuro, outpatient, and high level sports performance.
The “Mamba Mentality”. As a basketball fan, Dr. Whalen believes To be accomplished and successful, you must strive for greatness. Hard work, determination, and discipline are the foundation for success.
And showing up is half the battle. More importantly, being enthusiastic and kind will pave a path much easier to travel. Finally, surround yourself with positivity, enthusiasm, and kindness. Not only will this fuel yourself but those around you as well.

Dr. Whalen wants to help everyday people and recreational athletes become free from pain, return to their sports and activities and understand their health. He wants to provide the tools to get you back doing what you love.
Dr. Whalen has special interests in Mixture of manual therapy techniques and strength training that encompasses not only strength, but endurance, control, and body awareness.. He believes in treating the whole person and developing a personal relationship built on trust. He wants to listen to you and understand your goals. His treatment philosophy utilizes the latest evidence-based practice and blends functional strength and conditioning principles to help his patients achieve their goals.

When he’s not at Activa Physical Therapy you can find Dr. Whalen spending time with friends and family, training in a gym, eating, and watching lots of sports. The majority of his life was being an athlete so he enjoys watching his favorite sports and training for his most exciting hobby, obstacle course racing. But, he also enjoy engaging in my nerdy side by playing D&D and gaming with my friends.
